A GINGERBREAD YULE HOUSE FOR AMAZON PRIME & NETFLIX
It’s 9pm on a weekday and Marisol’s phone rings. There’s a gingerbread emergency and word on the cookie street is that Marisol is the only person crazy enough to take on a project like this- a 3 floor gingerbread house with two rooms on the second floor and an attic bathroom, where each room will be methodically torn down, by toy machines, one at a time, in specific order, to perfectly reveal gingerbread people inside the home.
They’d come to the right place. Marisol used her experience working on construction sites with her dad to perfectly engineer the seemingly impossible feat.
“I have a hard time backing down from a challenge. I don’t say yes to everything, but I can’t remember the last time I said no to a project because it was difficult. I always say yes and then that handshake becomes my NorthStar. Then I know that come hell or high water, I’m not showing up empty handed or doing anything other than exceeding everyone’s expectations and keeping that promise”.
So she teamed up with Big Object Studio (a stop motion studio in Red Hook who not only shot the production and built and designed the set, but also taught themselves to operate toy construction vehicles and built custom attachments so they could deliver some serious damage) and proceeded to develop a new recipe for this cookie demolition; which she then tested on three houses before perfecting it and building two additional houses to bring to shoot date.
What you will see in this free almost-hour-long video , is the result of many many hours of work by many artists and dedicated people and we hope you enjoy it.
2018 Madison Square Park Gingerbread Village for Taste of Home and Folgers
It was all hands on deck for this enormous undertaking by Team Tiny. And by all- we mean even baby James who was only 11 days old when his mama brought him on-site for the build.
When the production company rang Marisol, the idea was to build simple gingerbread houses with a military train going around them. Now we can do simple- but how much more fun would it be if the train traveled through the United States via it’s quintessential architecture? We crossed our fingers and waited.
We got the call that the client had approve the install and off we went building 7 structures: a lighthouse and Maine log cabin to represent the north east, a cute palm springs single level home, a beautiful barn for the midwest, a cozy beach shack for our neighbors in Florida, and of course a Brooklyn brownstone and the empire state building for good old NYC. Complete with animals, vehicles, cookie sand, Over 300 hours and 100 lbs of gingerbread went into the making of this piece. It took 4 people (not counting James) an entire day to install, which included drilling into the base of the custom made (Thank you Area4!) table.
Visitors were able to peak inside the life-sized gingerbread house and feel the magic of Christmas and 8 lucky winners were able to dine inside with the village as their centerpiece.
A Custom Gingerbread Village for Hallmark Channel
This past year, we had the pleasure of working with Little Miss Party to bring the magic of a Hallmark holiday movie by dreaming up a gingerbread version of one of their movie sets.
The whole build took us a week to sketch, design, and assemble. The team then worked tirelessly for 24 hours on the eve of Thanksgiving to bring this magic to the Time Warner Center for a fabulous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day viewing party thrown by the kings of Christmas- The Hallmark Channel
